Loss

Milana Abdurashitova is a six-year-old Mariupol girl that in 2015, during the shellfire of the Vostochny microdistrict, lost her mother, who covered her daughter by herself. The child miraculously survived but lost a leg.

This girl has become a symbol of all-conquering mercy. Her story is one of hundreds of thousands of similar stories of a childhood broken due to the war in Eastern Ukraine.

It is symbolic that the artwork is located on Peace and Freedom Avenue. It is a constant reminder of how fragile human life is, how instantly it can get lost in the millstones of an armed conflict.

Mural author: Ukrainian artist Alexander Korban.
Mural "Milana" was opened in 2018 on the International Day of Peace.
