Chernivtsi Town Hall

The imposing building of the Town Hall very harmoniously fits into the architectural ensemble of the central part of Chernivtsi, making the city even more attractive to visit. An ancient three-storey building with a high tower and a courtyard, built in the style of late classicism in 1843-1847, was designed by German architect Adolf Martin. Since 2004, every day at noon, a trumpet player in colorful Bukovinian clothes climbs the building's tower. The trumpet player plays the melody of the immortal song "Marichka" on all four sides of the world. This melody has already been called the unofficial anthem of Chernivtsi.

Chernivtsi National University

This architectural ensemble is unique. The project was carried out by the academician and architect Josef Hlavka from the Czech Republic. Eclecticism, combined with Byzantine and Romanesque styles, makes the complex of buildings outstanding not only for Chernivtsi but also for the whole country. Construction lasted for almost 20 years, and its budget was impressive 1,750,000 guilders, and neighboring Austria-Hungary also contributed. The uniqueness of the buildings is distinguished due to red terracotta and carved stones, as well as the use of glazed tiles of four colors. All buildings were erected taking into account the seismic status of the region, so they did not suffer from two earthquakes in the 20th century. The Palace of Bukovina Metropolitan Bishops contains rooms of magical beauty - Marble, Red, Blue, and Green. The architectural monument impresses with its interior decoration, in which the eastern and western features are closely intertwined.

Drunk church

St.Nicholas Cathedral has a more popular name - Drunk Church. This architectural monument is one of the most prominent in Chernivtsi. What is the first surprise in the construction and decoration of the church? Unusual "drums" under the domes! It seems that they were twisted for the sake of someone's fun, but in fact, it is the style of "brynkovyanu," typical of Romanians. Some people think that they have something in sight or suspect the presence of an optical illusion. Still, everything is much more interesting in reality: the Drunken Church was built thanks to the prototype, the Orthodox Assumption Council of Bishops in Romania.

Chernivtsi Regional Art Museum is located on the second and third floors of a luxurious historic building in the heart of Chernivtsi. The building of the Chernivtsi Art Museum is a unique architectural monument of national importance. It was built in the tradition of Viennese Art Nouveau secession for the Bukovina Savings Bank (1900) and designed by architect Hubert Gessner together with Prokop Shupikh. Construction was carried out together with Robert Vitek.

Armenian Church

Decoration of Chernivtsi is the Cathedral of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. The combination of three architectural styles, organ and ancient sculptures make the place interesting for tourists. The history of this cathedral is connected with the existence of the Armenian diaspora in the city. At the end of the 19th century, Armenians planned to build their own church because the number of parishioners was constantly increasing. The architect of the project was well-known at the time Josef Glavk, who also built the residence of the Bukovynian metropolitan bishops, developed an ambitious project: the building was to become notable not only because it used Romanesque, Byzantine, and Gothic features but also because the pipe organ was to appear in the cathedral.
